About This Show
When it comes to unexplained phenomena, it is just that. Unexplained. We try to approach this from as many different ways as possible, and to throw out the assumptions that have driven research for a very long time. These strange experiences people have, no matter what you want to label or catagorize them as, are real in some way. They have been reported throughout history and across cultures. If nothing else, they are a very Human experience. None of the theories we have may even come close to divining what we are actually experiencing, if they did, we would have some answers. We do not know what Reality is, what life or death are, or truly why we are here. We do know that our senses filter much out, and our memories do not work like we think they do. New approaches are needed if we are ever to make any progress at all in understanding what we are interacting with. Some of that comes from understanding ourselves, and some of that comes from having a truly open mind in confronting those things that defy explanation. We need new eyes, perspectives, and better questions. That is the goal of Where Did the Road Go? To go places that have not been tread before, and explore new things from new angles. To leave the well worn road, and wander...
We’ve been hinting about Site 7 on previous shows. We have an ongoing investigation at Site 7 but we remain unsure what we are dealing with – we have reports of mystery lights, orbs, bigfoot creatures, and possible spirit activity. Tonight we’ll talk with Chris, who was the first person who told me about Site 7 as well as Lori and Jeff who have had several strange experiences at Site 7. James and I will relate our own experiences at Site 7, some other findings, and on-site audio on a future episode. (Please note: there are some issues with the audio in this episode. We’ve done our best to clean up the audio, but there are still some issues with the audio levels and background noise).

With Albatwitch Day approaching, James and Timothy discuss albatwitches: the short in temper – as well as stature – hair covered ape-men said to haunt the riparian regions of South-Central Pennsylvania. We discuss albatwitch legends, some modern sightings, and the etymology of the name “albatwitch”. We also talk to Colin Schneider (aka The Crypto-Kid) about other “little people”, hairy dwarves, and diminutive humanoids from around the world.

Episode 18 notes and links:
Albatwitch Day: https://www.facebook.com/events/1882624695357956/ Albatwitch Day is October 14, 2017 in Columbia, PA from 11am-4pm. Timothy and James from Strange Familiars will be attending. Stone Breath will be playing some music. Timothy will be giving a lecture on Bigfoot in Pennsylvania…many more activities planned throughout the day. Stop out if you can.
James and Timothy hunt down a UFO landing site in rural Pennsylvania. Was it all a hoax or did something unknown land there in 1977? We also interview multiple guests about their UFO sightings and what they think UFOs might be.
In this episode we talk about the ghosts of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Featuring interviews with author Mark Nesbitt, Patrick from the Gettysburg Paranormal Association, and Jack from the Cashtown Inn. James also tells about some of the strangeness he experienced staying at some of the haunted inns around Gettysburg.

Melissa Martell joins us for the first time, and we discuss a variety of subjects, including Folklore, Ghosts, Pet Ghost Encounters, Crowley, Magick, and much more...
In this episode we talk with Aaron David and Kelly from the Charm the Water podcast. Aaron and Kelly talked about some strange things going on around their house during a recent Charm the Water episode. Some of the things they were describing set off some alarms for us and made us think: they are going to have a cryptid sighting soon. Not long after, we saw Aaron post on Facebook that they had seen a cryptid creature. We immediately asked them to come on Strange Familiars.
We talk about Charm the Water, occult spirituality, magic, and more. We also discuss their cryptid sighting and how it may be connected with the occult. Timothy and James also give some hints about some of the things they are experiencing at Site 7 – an area we will talk a lot more about in the future.

In this episode Timothy introduces James, his new partner for paranormal investigations – and a voice you’ll be hearing a lot more on Strange Familiars. They talk about some weird happenings from James’ childhood: Were bigfoot creatures stalking around his family home? What was the strange thing is father saw crouched along Toad Road? (They also promised to get to some of Timothy’s experiences but ran out of time. Look for those on a future episode.)

For episode 13 we talk with Jim Pyre. Jim is a Strange Familiars listener and he reached out to us with some of his experiences with the strange and paranormal. We talked about will-o-the-wisps, the fae folk, grassman, hatman and more – including some thoughts about what may be behind some of these phenomena.
We’ll be featuring listener stories on occasion and we would like to do compilation shows featuring multiple listeners – so even if you just have a short encounter, we would love to hear from you.

So this show is in response to a short bit Peter Benard recorded after listening to our June 9th Show on Fiction and the Paranormal. Although he misquoted me a couple of times, overall his points were excellent, so this show is in response to his response. We clear up what he seems to have misunderstood, in case anyone else did as well, and then build off of the points he made. Overall, this show is about how to stay sane, and not get caught up in the beliefs these things create.
You can hear Peter's Bit Below, if you want to listen to that first. It is not necessary, but it will give you a better idea of where we are coming from as we go into this.
And here is the email Peter send us;
"I have a lot of respect for the older episodes of "Where Did The Road Go" but I think Seriah has become too involved with certain other people who are unconsciously intent on creating a new religion of Forteanism in which the majority of logical thought is labeled heresy.
I recorded thsi for PQ Ribber's show, but I don't know when he's going to upload it. My long-winded commentary, interrupted by me taking a picture of a robin and avoiding crazy(er) people.
It's reached the point where Seriah recently expressed GUILT about listening to fiction about horror and wondered openly if horror fiction POLLUTES THE EVIDENCE POOL of paranormal research.
"Pollutes the evidence pool" is to Forteans in 2017 what "Trump and Russia" is to MSNBC and CNN in 2017. It excites the cult members while making everyone else see you as completely batshit crazy.
Keel told me to NEVER BELIEVE ANYTHING ABOUT ANY OF THIS STUFF. Once you start believing anything, then YOU WILL GO INSANE.
Hence, my attraction to Andy Kaufman-style pranking, like Mullah Nasrudin, Robert Anton Wilson, and other heretics before me. To drive you SANE. If pranks make you ANGRY instead of making you LAUGH, then YOU are the one who most needs to be pranked. Pranksters pull pranks TO REMIND YOU THAT YOU BETTER STOP BELIEVING IN SHIT for the sake of your own sanity. If you're wondering if it's heretical to listen to FICTION, then you need to take a break and go listen to ANYTHING else for a while. Take a break. Watch a comedy. Go see a band play, man. Don't make up random fortean rules based on the limited thinking of the people who collect Bigfoot or UFO paraphernalia then beat yourself for sinning against these arbitrary and weird rules.
cough cough Blink 182 cough cough
If your first assumption is not ALWAYS that it was a prank, then you've become a cult member and a believer, and you have no ability to claim being involved in scientific inquiry. All of forteana is just a collection of stories. A collection of stories is not a "pool of evidence," it's FOLKLORE. Horror fiction is also essentially folklore. You ask if folklore is polluting folklore! That's not logical thought. Anyone who has read RAW knows that's only ghost words based on dogma instead of the reality(ies) in front of your nose.
You guys fret about how to be taken more seriously by people outside your little circle. If you ACTUALLY want to understand that, listening to my audio would be a good place to start. Or you can get angry at me for liking and respecting you enough to spill my guts for you. My next appearance in Boston I'm being lumped in with a Simpsons animator and a Grateful Dead t-shirt artist, nothing in my world is changed if you heed my words or not.
In this Roundtable discussion, I am joined by Red Pill Junkie, Timothy Renner, and Joshua Cutchin. We discuss what sound does to us and our environment. We discuss the beeping and buzzing that UFO witnesses describe, the Oz factor, Bi-Aural Mediation, what happens when there is complete Lack of Sound, Music's effects on us, and what ancient cultures may have known about it that we do not... This and much more...
