Strange Familiars: Episode 3 Toad Road and the Seven Gates of Hell, part 3

StrangeFamiliars

Strange Familiars explores a variety of subjects in a combination of storytelling, reporting, interviews, and discussion. Cryptids, ghosts, folklore, mythology, and paranormal topics.

Our first cycle of episodes will explore some local legends from York County, Pennsylvania beginning with Toad Road and the Seven Gates of Hell. In episode 3 we journey back to Toad Road and discuss ghosts, bigfoot, the Hidebehind, cryptids, iron furnaces, missing persons, and more - including some very dark, very real true crime stories which took place in the area.

The Great Pyramid Hoax: The Conspiracy to Conceal the True History of Ancient Egypt by Scott Creighton (2016)

The Great Pyramid Hoax by Scott Creighton is a fantastic piece of work. He painstakingly works his way through the history of the discovery of the marks in the relieving chamber above the King’s Chamber, and how they were likely hoaxed. Now, this is an old theory put forth by Zachariah Sitchin, and he was wrong about his evidence. However, Scott digs through journals not investigated thus far, and assembles a host of evidence to show that in all likelihood, the most of the markings that are used to date the Great Pyramid, were created in the 19th century by Howard Vyse. This is not a collection of unsubstantiated theory, but relies on overwhelming facts and evidence that supports the idea that those markings were hoaxed, and if that is the case, the one identifier we have for the creator and age of the Great Pyramid is gone. This is an important piece of work.

Magick and The Occult Roundtable - March 9, 2017

Baphomet

A listener, and I believe a Patreon, had asked if we could do a show talking about Magick. It's something we reference a lot, but take for granted that people know about. So, I brought together Michael M. Hughes and Aaron David, who have both had much experience with the subject, as well as myself, and Adam Sayne, who is not so experienced, to keep us grounded. I hope this is as interesting to everyone as it was to us!

The John Titor Legend with Mike Sauve - March 3, 2017

revised-john-titor-book-layout-final-1.jpgI talk with Mike Sauve, who has written, Who Authored The John Titor Legend. We get into a little bit of what his research reveals. From the back of the book;  In the year 2000, a man calling himself John Titor introduced himself to the Internet as a time traveler from the year 2036. He weaved a rich tale of being sent back to 1975 to retrieve an IBM 5100 computer. Those who interacted with John were impressed by the depth and apparent realism of his story. In the years that followed select details would emerge to help further legitimize John Titor.

The question of whether or not John Titor was a real time traveler remains a subject of contentious debate. This book sets that question aside to examine several figures who may be responsible for the posts. Among the principle suspects are entertainment lawyer Larry Haber and alternate reality gaming pioneer Joseph Matheny. Key players involved in the John Titor phenomenon who are not suspected of authoring the story are also profiled. These include a PhD who filed a patent based on John Titor’s time machine schematics, an Internet sleuth called The Hoax Hunter who has worked to debunk the story, and even Art Bell, the legendary late night radio host who received several faxes from John Titor.

Mike Sauve has written non-fiction for The National Post, Variety, Exclaim! Magazine and HTML Giant. His fiction has appeared in McSweeney’s and elsewhere. His novels The Wraith of Skrellman and The Apocalypse of Lloyd are available from Montag Press.
